Not being a fan of rats, I tend to agree with that description of them. It would cost more than one dollar for me to agree to change anyone’s view of them.
I’m happy to be back. In case anyone missed my post from yesterday, I lost my internet connection on Thursday at around noon when the roofers damaged or cut the cable while laying down the metal on my roof. I don’t have wireless internet. I have a cable that connects to the west side of my house and goes up over the kitchen & back porch roof, then into the upstairs room on the east side of my house where my computer is. I guess I should have made that bedroom on the west side of the house into my computer room when I got hooked up to the internet. It would have made things easier. But I’ve had my computer in this particular bedroom for a lot of years so it just never occurred to me to change. Anyway, the tech guy just had to throw a new wire over the roof (that part of the house is only one story high) and he got me reconnected quickly (he couldn’t go up on the roof because it’s covered in snow now).
I had meant to call whisplicka to let her know I was okay so she could pass that information to all of you, but I just didn’t get around to it. I was trying to restore my internet myself by rebooting my modem, which I did countless times to no avail before I finally called Spectrum. I was going to call her on Sunday after work (I work an early shift on Sundays), but I was so tired when I got home that I completely forgot about it. I’m glad she caught me on Monday before I had to go to work. I was busy then cleaning the house so the tech guy wouldn’t see what a horrific mess the house was in. If there was anything good to say about losing my internet, it’s the fact that my house is a lot cleaner now than it was a few days ago.
I still have not caught up on reading comics from those days I missed. I had to catch up on family emails first. And I spent a good chunk of the day today finishing up my Christmas cards. But, eventually, I’ll catch up. I sure missed all of you, though!
National Chocolate Covered Anything Day. As much as I love chocolate, I can think of a LOT of things I would not want covered in chocolate.
Barbie and Barnie Backlash Day. On December 16th, Barbie and Barney Backlash Day allows parents to take a vacation from all the repetitive sing-a-longs and storytelling. While Barbie and Barney aren’t the only toys and television shows of childhood, these two do strike a nerve from time to time. The day permits parents to turn off the annoying cartoons and songs. Parents may insist on a different book to read at bedtime. Put away the noisy toys. If you dare.
Okay, so I have pictures (before and after) of my roof.
These “after” pictures are not quite the full after. My gutters & downspouts are not up yet. I ordered blue ones to match the roof (and as close as possible to matching the trim paint) and those had to be special ordered. They were supposed to arrive yesterday to the guys who are going to install them, but I have not heard a set date when they would be put up. It could still be this week.
The men started the roof on Wednesday and finished on Friday. Just as they were putting on the final touches on Friday, it started to snow. We got about 5" of the white stuff so the roof is still mostly snow-covered.
One bad part about getting that beautiful new roof is that it makes the rest of the house look shabby – like where I couldn’t reach to paint that top peak at the front of the house and where the west side of the house needs paint and where I really need to replace those second story windows in front of the house (I’m saving up to possibly do that next year).
This is the downstairs bedroom roof, before. And that rusty metal sided garage is mine (too far from the street to park my car in) while the white garage in the background was once a livery stable.
This shows work in progress on the second story roof. See how bad those front windows look? And somehow, I vow I WILL paint that part near the peak of the roof next year!
This is the flat roof at the front of the house (the roof that used to leak), while in progress. I took this picture hanging out the upstairs window. You can see the rotting wood in the window frame. I HOPE I can afford to replace those windows sometime next summer.
This picture shows the new kitchen/porch and back bedroom roofs. See the upstairs window on the left? That’s my computer room. This is the north side of the house. My internet cable goes along that roof and around the bend into the east side of the house.
So, those are the picture I got. My roofer was posting pictures on their Facebook page too, but I have not looked at those yet. Right now, though I think I better go to bed. I hope you like my pictures. I’m looking forward to getting the gutters & downspouts done too.
I apologize for not posting Tuesday. It started with falling out of bed at 5 am and realizing I lacked the strength to get up. Two hours later, I was rescued with great loss to my dignity. From there the day went down hill.

What is the market rate for shrimp tails? I suspect a dollar will not go far.

The roof is looking great. It’s like everything else though – you get one new thing and everything else looks shabby, lol. Pretty kitty, too.

This first picture is the kitchen roof before (this is the roof my internet cable goes over). That garage in the background is mine too.

I stood on the roof to take this picture of the porch & kitchen roof.

This is the downstairs bedroom roof. That chimney is from the neighbor’s house, not mine.

This is the new 2-story part of the roof. Not a great picture because it was gloomy weather, just getting ready to snow.

And, last but not least, here’s my new flat roof. You can see it’s a little wet, since it had just started snowing when I took this picture.
