And here is possibly the SADDEST near-instant “cold snap” I know of:

“In Malaparte’s telling, there was, during the Siege of Leningrad, a sudden cold snap. “When that happens, if water is very pure it can drop below the point of freezing, without freezing,” Murch said. “Then all it takes is some agitation or impurity to tap the water on the shoulder and say, ‘You should be frozen now,’ and it will suddenly, instantly freeze.

So during the Siege of Leningrad there happened to be a forest fire, and hundreds of Soviet horses ran into the lake, and that was enough to cause the lake to freeze. In the morning, it was like a diabolical Greek sculpture garden, with horses in a position of agony, having been flash-frozen."

Those waves exist! Just search for Antarctica Frozen Waves. There are an avalanche of photos! And at least three Youtube videos! I personally think the shade of pale blue is stunning!

Canoeing one clear, calm day in November, I watched the river slowly closing in on me, and finally had to break a bit of ice to get back home.

He should be more worried about how little he’s wearing in cold like that.

During my life, Lake Michigan almost froze over (95%), which is nothing compared to the ice that dug its ditch.

Looks like the kind of stunt Superman used to be able to do with his super-breath. (I haven’t read Superman in about 25 years, and have no idea if the current incarnation has that power. It does seem a little silly and unsophisticated for today’s world.)

He should be frozen. Probably a beam from the weather altering satellite called “Zeus”.
