Stay warm, guys. What I hated about where I used to live in NY is that I was surrounded by huge oak trees. Every time it snowed, rained or was windy, we would lose power because a branch would fall on the power lines. (I wonât even mention squirrels in the good weather committing suicide at the junction boxes). We lost power for more than 2 weeks with Hurricane Sandy and that was late October. Freezing in the house. I cannot IMAGINE losing power when itâs in the teens, single digits or, God forbid, below ZERO!
There are people like ED everywhere. Empowered by the ease of instant communications (emails, texts, social media, etc.), they âenlightenâ the rest of us of their âvaluableâ and unsolicited, and unimportant âexpertâ opinions. And suddenly we have experts in constitutional law, astrophysics, medicine (especially communicable diseases and pandemics), statistics (especially throwing numbers at you to support their âexpertâ views, without worrying too much about the source of these numbers), engineering, science, etc.
I am not sure how to counteract the âEDâ effects, in general. For me: I purged my accounts of Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn from any / all âEDsâ that pop up, no question asked.
I have been much happier, less stressful, less cranky since I did that.
Last night the weatherman said, âKeep checking the weather as it is constantly changingâ. And it depends on which side of the river you live on as to whether it is snowing or not. It does make a huge difference.
I think itâs a saying in every state âDonât like the weather? Wait five minutes and itâll change!â. That said, I remember several White Easters in Maryland. And just sweater-weather Christmas as well!
Meteorology and economic forecasting are two professions where being correct is not a requirement of being considered an expert. As long as you can explain after the fact why you were wrong.

Thatâs what you get for living near large bodies of water. Of where I live, the high temp for this weekend is going to be -25C.

The weatherman said it would be warm on that day. Itâs his fault.

Oh Ed ! Here in NY we had a winter storm a few days ago. Some idiot on the radio said we could expect anywhere from 1" to 18". Thanks for nothing.
