There were a few times (back when we had a dog AND were all going to an office) when I forgot something after leaving for work and would have to come back to the house. As I would come home I would hear the dog … moaning … that all of us were gone as she wandered around the house. Then she would notice I was coming to the door and it was as if I had been gone for years instead of the 15 minutes or whatever it had been.
I like my pets to miss me but not to the extent that they pine until I return. That’s what I like about cats. They are always glad to see me but I don’t think they miss me much; they are very busy.
