I don’t know where “MeeMaw” lives. But here in Oregon we have laws about feeding the wildlife. Particularly around Deer season, it’s called baiting. Plus I live in a city of around 50,000 and the people here, inside city limits, will see a deer and say – “How cute” in one breath. And in the next breath say all sorts of nasty things when they discover that the deer have just dined on all their prized roses and other flowers. For the deer have found out that people can’t hunt them inside the city limits. Cars are a hazard. But the deer have figured out how to ovoid being hit by cars and trucks. Otherwise, they seem to live just fine inside the city limits and raise nice families of little deer to eat in other peoples gardens.

meemaw lives in a place where it’s ALLOWED to bait the deer to your heart’s content…cuz these deer (cartoon) don’t eat what they shouldn’t, nor do they ruin vehicles…cuz it’s a CARTOON for GOD’s/pete’s sake…

A fed deer is a dead deer. Not my words, the words of Fish and game, wildlife management experts, naturalists, pretty much anyone who spends even a short while studying or working with deer.Deer who’ve been fed by humans quickly learn to be unafraid of humans, and human machines like cars and trucks, they move into human territory with all it’s dangers and settle and breed. Shortly thereafter the dying starts… Encouraging this by prettying it up in a popular family cartoon only makes the problem worse and ultimately kills more deer.

Wait until a case of wasting disease hits the deer population because of extreme over population and then crosses over to the beloved canine children. What causes that you say? Failure to cull the herd either due to natural predators or hunting. But wait! That would kill Bambi and we don’t want that.

The city near me has had to allow bow hunting of deer (at specific time of the year) along the larger creeks that are surrounded by park land. No guns for this of course! We have way to many cars and houses and people used as targets by people with guns.
