I love my old clocks ticking the time away. I don’t care if they are accurate or not…..just the sound is relaxing to me. I even have an old banjo clock that has wooded gears….and it shows the correct time twice a day.
I’ve got a Seth Thomas mantel clock from 1878. I’m also a retired Navy Electronics Tech specializing in navigation systems, GPS and all that. If you want to know what the exact time is, get a clock running on a rubidium oscillator that’s syncing to GPS. Or just wait until that old Seth Thomas strikes the hour.
I have a “cheap” (less than $100 I paid at an auction) old wind up mantle clock that I enjoy. Keeps time accurate to about 2 minutes a day but I adjust it regularly.
Another point, most clocks like that one are eight day machines. They’ll run down after eight days so most of us wind ours every seventh day. At that time, you would also reset the time to an accurate time piece (my GPS syncing watch works well). I’ve got two Seth Thomas and two Chelseas that I wind and adjust every Saturday morning. They are all pleasant to look at and to listen to. And then I report to the Captain that “all chronometers have been wound and compared Sir!”
My grandfather’s clock was the best ever made by the Timex company. Just like the clock John Cameron Swazey displayed last night on the old TV. Oh, it worked under water so perfectly. And, it makes a ticking sound. Which my grandfather tried only this afternoon. And that’s how the old man drowned! Alan Sherman. Yes, I know that this is a rerun. But, what the hey. If it works. It works. And, I gave credit to the creator.

Just tack it on to Barn’s bucket list, Cyn! Some collector will cough up double what Barney paid!

I’m rather surprised a billionaire would even take notice of a $3,500 expenditure.

The good news is that Cynthia can do that calculation.
If he stopped the clock, it would be right twice a day!

All you have to do is turn it back once a month.

Her calculations are off. Barney said WITHIN a minute a month not exactly a minute a month.
