Believe it or not, people used to make comments that were actually about the comic.

I would’ve been four or five when that Sahara Desert plane crash occurred. What happened then? Did an engine explode or something?

Does Ikea know that Latvia is encroaching on their territory?

How many planes wrecks in the Sahara after 1989 were never saved because the rescuers accidentally went to the silhouette instead?

Our dust storms are also powered by sunshine. All weather is powered by sunshine.

I’ll admit I don’t know exactly what Mars storms they’re referring to, but aren’t all dust storms on Earth also powered by sunlight? Wind comes from temperature differences generated by solar radiation.

Folding houses is nothing new. In my hometown, there is a company who manufactures folding houses for the last 25 years. We talk about real house, not cabin. Houses made for tough climats from -20*F to 110*F. In transportation mode, they are the size of a sea container. 2 persons unfold it, connect untility and start to live in it in 2 hours.

Let them have their fun! I’ve learned a few new jokes! What is the harm?

We’re learning more about Mars every day now. That info will change how we see the ‘real’ Mars instead of the sci-fi version, although that one was more fun.

As to folding houses, that’s another demonstration that given incentive new, beneficial ideas can come from anywhere.

I saw one of those folding cabins at the State Fair a couple years ago, They are actually quite spacious, comparative to a very large tent. But I don’t think I would use it for more than a vacation home (similar to an RV) as it didn’t seem very sturdy

That’s nothing. My kids used to do a series of cabins using nothing but couch and chair cushions.

The videos of the Brette haus set up and take down all show a larger professional crew, using a crane, and a heavy truck to move the thing. Still extremely useful, temporary, housing after a disaster.

None of these items today seems difficult to believe, or spectacularly coincidental. This strip may have (gasp!) gone the way of Dennis the Menace.
