If you can get your name on a ballot, you should be able to run. This is why you should at least ask politely what the would-be candidate stands for before signing nomination papers. I used to simply sign for anyone who asked, so I was contributing to the proliferation of fringe candidates on every side. No longer. If your principal reason for running or pushing your ballot question is some fringe agenda, I am no longer going to sign.
I feel that this portrayal of an African-American person (assumedly, or at least a person of color), at this time in the United States, is highly insensitive at best and racist at worst. I realize it’s only a comic strip, and I obviously love the comics or I wouldn’t have seen this strip. People of color in this country are subject to so much racism, and are seemingly dying daily because of it; they deserve a better and more positive representation in the media, even the comics.
