Here is a trash speech for you Phoebe and Max: The bell just rang. If you don’t scurry off to class, you’ll have Detention after school for a whole month. Try that for size; preparing for a debate.

And, once again, Phoebe looks cute.

You know, I wonder if one reason for readers shipping Phoebe and Max is how close they typically stand together. Their faces are less than a head’s width apart, which, in this and probably most cultures, is not normally done unless two people are about to kiss. But I assume Dana draws them this close only because space in a newspaper comic panel is at a premium. The alternative would be to draw them smaller, sacrificing facial emphasis.

As someone who was a competitive speaker in speech and debate … I became a much better friend when I got out of that.

I hate this strip, yet I read it. It’s kind of like how Nate reads Bethany. If you read Big Nate, I guess you know why I mewn.
