I have had tinnitus since the Army, starting in 1971. Something about the noise from small arms fire, grenades, tanks, choppers, the usual.
VA has done everything they can to deny there is anything wrong with my hearing, even though everywhere I have worked since I got out I have been told that I need to get my hearing checked. One of the most common things I have said over the last 50 years is “Huh, I can hear you are talking but I cannot understand what you are saying.” I have learned to read lips to some extent and use the closed captions on the television.I had one audiologist provided by the VA who pretty much accused me of faking my hearing loss and denied my disability. It is on appeal.

You may need to put the phone on vibrate, Broomie!

Nope, that didn’t fix my tinnitus. I’ve had it as long as I can remember. I’ve answered many phones over the years but my ears just go on ringing.

I don’t think the sound I hear would qualify as tinnitus, it goes away when I have my noise-cancelling headphones on.

I have it, but luckily, most of the time I can “tune it out”. I can hear it right now of course, because we’re talking about it…

Its just a background noise that is always there for me, but it does make it hard to understand higher pitched voices sometimes

Broomie wasn’t exsctly clear on the concept, but Gaylord’s “reading” seems to have helped, at least this time….
