    Now, once a year, you will receive a present. It will likely be something you don’t need or want but then you can retaliate by spending good money to buy something she doesn’t need or want.

    And if you both (or either of you) have children in the future, you will forever give Mother’s/Father’s Day gifts or cards, and the same for the Nieces and Nephews. Then on to becoming a grandparent.. Personally I wouldn’t have it any other way.

    Simple solution: buy her a lousy present every year, she’ll respond in kind, and eventually they’ll both give up on the idea.
