Hi, tribe!
Anyone know if Little Sister or Oooops! live on/near the coast? Tsunami warning for Hawaii and the west coast due to an earthquake in Japan.
I’m watching GMA what happened to Japan, national news states heading for Hawaii and West Coast. Hawaii could get wiped out I hope the island is evacuating.
I’m very slowly coming out of it. I’m foggy, hearing is improving. So the steroid shot is really working and I don’t want to use that method all the time. Slept better then I have in a while.
Hi, Grog & Kab!
I hope Little Sister isn’t affected. It hasn’t hit the U.S. yet, but I hear the earthquake in Japan has caused a lot of damage and several deaths.
Big Sister I read your comment yesterday. I’ll be honest I almost didn’t mention about medical insurance change. The only reason why I did to let all new that Textron Cessna’s parent company succumbed like so many others on cost. No it will not be great. There is a cap like my hours for the year. Once this is reached I will have to cover more. In other words if I have to go to hospital for some emergency I need a lot of cash laid aside I don’t have to pay them before insurance will cover. Meds will come off that. Prescription for illness I have no choice, but meds for maintenance I can make change.
Kab - I’m glad you were able to sleep better last night. I’m not looking forward to seeing how much is the 20% of my hubby’s surgery, because BCBS only covers 80%. It seems like every year lately, he’s been needing some minor surgery or procedure that gives us a big bill, even with insurance.
If your on the high ground in Hawaii, you’ll be ok. They are evacuating to the high ground there.
Southern California should be fine. San Francisco and points north from there to the coast of Oregon should see smaller waves. Little Sister should be fine.
——————————
You’re here early, Rmom.
Grog - My son was using my computer to watch videos last night, and left it open to BT. So, instead of waiting after I finish the rest of the web sites I read, like I usually do, I started out on BT this morning.
Got to sleep early last night and enjoyed every minute of it. Woke up to the news about that 8.9 earthquake in Japan! Those poor people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.
Haven’t heard about the tidal wave hitting Wash. and Ore. yet….hope everyone there is okay.
I stepped away from GC. Grog I’m going by what the early morning news showed. Waves are picking up in Hawaii. I don’t live anywhere near that area.
SRmom I don’t know what surgery your hubby is having. When I had my rt shoulder done last year that was minor. Compared to people I seen arms in slings for a long period of time. Now only pain I have is when I exercise. I have what is called a trainer of muscles very effective too. Cross country skier. I over did it and had to use a heating pad. Power full ouch.
Oh for prescriptions more to point of maintenance I have to use a different one so I won’t apply to new insurance coverage. Cheaper too.
Smiley R Mom - My company self-insures, and has BCBS administer their plan. It does cover better than some policies, but, like I tell everyone who asks why I haven’t had my right knee replaced (left one done), I say Yes, I only have to play 10%, but 10% of a chunk of change is still a large amount. Especially with my hubby taking Remicade infusions every 6 weeks, at $6000 a pop.
Kab - One year he had a couple cortisone shots for neck pain, and the place it was done wasn’t in our insurance company’s network, so big bill. Then, neck surgery. Then a dental implant. Then a colonoscopy. Recently, hernia surgery. Nothing life-threatening, but all needed and expensive.
Quaby - I understand! Thankfully, we have a medical flex account that we contribute to pre-tax, that can pay for co-pays & deductibles, as those really add up. It seems like I have to get a new crown about every other year, so there’s always plenty we have to pay.
Well, according to what I have seen early this morning and read up now, people in Hawaii have evacuated to the higher grounds as waves 7 feet high have swept through the lower elevations. I have not as, yet seen calls for evacuate of the islands completely.
Hello soon be time for me to leave. For us hubby is the only who who has dental coverage. I can’t go still paying on cc.
SRmom I feel your hubby’s pain. You said he had neck surgery. I have two vertebrae fused together with brackets in front. I am limited on how far I can turn my neck. And if I have to bend down to the floor I start to get a little light headed. I don’t do it very often. At home I have someone else go that far. Hard on a tall man to go that low. Oh my prior symptoms I had before left after neck surgery.
Grog how big is the company you work for. I’m not asking what type of company is either.
Dept I work for is just local here. There is a company called KOCH Industries is major. I don’t work there heard bad things about that place as a working area.
We’ve got 68°F here now! Hurrah!
I’m in the middle of baking some rolls. I’ve been wanting some, and with hubby on a low-carb diet, it would be mean if I baked them when he’s around.
As soon as they’re out and we’ve “sampled” them, then we’re going to go search for those missing car parts. So, I probably won’t be on much.
Kab, this is a fairly large Japanese company with production facilities all over Asia with a few smaller production facilities in the U.S. Our business was recently acquired from a mid-cap U.S. Company about half the size of my present employer. It is quite large from what I can gather.
It’s getting close to T’storm season. They’ve re-opened the salt mines with tours now. I saw them when I was in grade school. For a while they were closed to the public. The Cosmosphere (Space museum) is there and growing. Don’t know if it had started when you were there. They refurbise items for space museums all over the world now.
A lot of important things are stored in the salt mine due to the enviroment. Things from all over the country, business records, film from Hollywood, etc. It’s about 600 feet underground if I remember right. Taking the elevator there was one spot about halfway down where their was a rushing sound. The operator said that was an underground river. See here
I will have the chocolate cake if it is o.k. Here are some strawberries to go with it. I might pass on the nuclear pudding for now…(watches to see what happens)
It got up to 74°F here today. If it weren’t for the 30 mph winds, it would have felt hotter. No luck on finding the parts. A guy from KDOT stopped while we were looking, and said they were in the area picking up debris when it was rainy not too long ago. I even went to the “yard” where they take the stuff. If it was in that pile, it probably would have been broken by the railroad ties and other heavy stuff, so I’ve given up the search.
bmonk - Tried the avatar again. No go, so don’t switch yours.
My hubby took off the driver’s side matching part (it is a grill that goes around the turn signal light on the front of the car) and straightened the piece in the middle, so it doesn’t look unbalanced now. I don’t think most people will notice.
74 too hot? Poppycock! I like temperatures up to the low- to mid-80’s - especially if there’s a breeze. I still wouldn’t use the a/c and the windows would be open most of the time.
I am sure glad I didn’t change any like Bmonk & Sojo did.
Hi Grog!
I have thought about it and I really cannot accept the nomination as Sheriff. It would just be too easy to catch myself in the act and I hate throwing myself in jail. I would be willing to consider the position of comedically inept deputy, as long as I never successfully arrest anyone.
Hi Kab Sister, Pseudo, promised to be nice. You will remember that people don’t always realize that what they are teasing about isn’t funny for you? They sometimes just don’t realize it is a sensitive subject?
Sucks Rotten Dried Sour Grapes! (I know.)
Still….. I enjoy shooting peoples with my grape jelly gun. Of course, now I have to figure out what to do about the Sheriff.
Lonewolf I get 5 weeks and I also have one week carry forward from last year. That’s the week I am taking next week. So I still haven’t touched any of this year’s time yet.
I am trying to take most of it by the end of July, or else i will end up carrying forward a lot of time again - perhaps more than last year. I really don’t want to carry forward any - if possible.
Back from supper…
Grog - I don’t think 74° is hot. But neither my sons or my car were comfortable. Unfortunately, something’s wrong with my PT - fan, water pump, etc. and it tried to overheat, so I didn’t want to use the a/c. Oldest son’s allergies started acting up, so he didn’t want the windows open, but it was too hot in there, (especially when we weren’t going at highway speed) without a/c or the windows open a bit. Thankfully, I found a few dust masks in with our tools, so he had one of those on.
Rmom, my allergies are quite active now too, but that won’t stop me from opening the window. I will always prefer fresh air to a/c.
♠Lonewolf♠, you should probably get even more vacation time if you’ve been wth the same company for over 30 years. Of course, it does become a problem trying to take it all in my line of work. However, the first half of the year is usually quieter than the latter part of the year.
I’d prefer it the other way around so that I can take more time off during football season so that I can watch the games to their conclusion without feeling it the next day.
Hi, Little Sister, Wolfie & Grog!Grog - I dislike having the windows open if I’m going highway speed, because my hair will blow in my eyes. The roar bothers my ears too - they’re sensitive to loud noises. If we’re only driving about 30 mph, I do like the sunroof and windows open, until it gets above 90°.
So….I open the windows when I smell skunk. Because by the time the smell gets through the vents, we’re usually past the road kill, and I need fresh air to blow the smell out.
Oh? And the cow pastures too? I don’t have to worry about hair. I usually wear a cap while driving….and if I didn’t I’ll soon be getting my summer buzz cut.
I really don’t have to deal with mosquitos while driving, HopeandJoy♫. Most all of my driving is daytime driving and I’ve never been bitten while driving during the day. In fact, I am most likely to be bitten at night or early morning in my yard or while taking a neighborhood walk.
I always have car windows down except when going by the icky manure part of the highway. I just don’t usually open it very far. If it is closed I get all nauseas.
Hi, Hope&Joy!Grog - If we drive past the commercial cattle feed lots, like they have in western KS, I understand. In this part of KS, most of the cattle are out in large fields eating the grass, etc. Those don’t stink hardly at all. However, if a cattle truck is nearby, those stink pretty bad most of the time. Since my Dad raised beef cattle, my nose can tell the difference between grass fed and grain fed cattle.
I hate to “post and run”, but my internet is really slow right now. (Probably has something to do with my hubby hogging bandwidth.) Plus, I’m getting tired, so hopefully I’ll be able to go to bed soon.
Good night!
Rmom, I was born and raised in the big city, so my nose would find both pretty offensive. I think up north, particulary rural areas outside my home town and a good part of up-state New England is cow country - and boy do they smell bad!
I don’t remember the town, it may of been Mead Ks., it was on highway 54 which has a lot of cattle truck traffic (when I had my sales job in western Ks.). A manager told be about a truck stopped at a red light when a convertable with it’s top down pulled up beside it. One of the cows filled up his back seat. Guess he shouldn’t of stopped beside it at the red light! :-)
I’m still here, pseudo, but not for too much longer. I, too am getting tired. Today was our big bonus payout and I just entered that into Quicken, so I’m done with the work portion of my computer time.
Just watching some DD&D and getting hungry again watching it.

bmonk - Not today, but I did yesterday. I also filled out the “contact us” form, so hoped they would fix the problem soon.
bmonk almost 14 years ago
Yes–the parts may not be essential to how the car works–but they sure affect how it looks.
bmonk almost 14 years ago
I was just wondering if I dared try to find a smurf avatar…
Guess I won’t chance it.
Smiley Rmom almost 14 years ago
bmonk - Tried the avatar again.

Good evening, Tribe!

Hi Grog!
I have thought about it and I really cannot accept the nomination as Sheriff. It would just be too easy to catch myself in the act and I hate throwing myself in jail. I would be willing to consider the position of comedically inept deputy, as long as I never successfully arrest anyone.

Back from supper… Grog - I don’t think 74° is hot.

Hello, Rmom & ♥Little Sister♥
Rmom, my allergies are quite active now too, but that won’t stop me from opening the window. I will always prefer fresh air to a/c.
♠Lonewolf♠, you should probably get even more vacation time if you’ve been wth the same company for over 30 years. Of course, it does become a problem trying to take it all in my line of work. However, the first half of the year is usually quieter than the latter part of the year.
I’d prefer it the other way around so that I can take more time off during football season so that I can watch the games to their conclusion without feeling it the next day.
George Arnold almost 14 years ago

There are only 3 things that will make me close my car window: 1) cow pastures; 2) skunk; and 3)cold air.
Smiley Rmom almost 14 years ago
Hi, Little Sister, Wolfie & Grog! Grog - I dislike having the windows open if I’m going highway speed, because my hair will blow in my eyes.

Hi, Hope&Joy! Grog - If we drive past the commercial cattle feed lots, like they have in western KS, I understand.

Good night!
GROG Premium Member almost 14 years ago
