Good Morning, All–bright and early, but short (for me)
Grog was referencing Pearls Before Swine, which was referencing Daylight Savings Time, which for many Americans will begin tonight, in about 20 hours. Spring ahead, Fall back. If we must.
pseudo, I like spring and fall here and could live without the rest, but I’ll take summer over winter. I, too am not from here, but from a point a lot further north.
Got my car in the shop, a ‘98 Saturn purchased used in ‘01. Neglected for 2 years (like the Focus) and it only needed the basic tuneup stuff. The a/c needed an evacuate and refill of freon (I gather that’s kinda like cleaning the pipes and filters) and blows cold now….and of course the temperature plummeted. All told, $412. Not bad at all. Then I took her to Gerald’s, used tires and replace two tierods. Only needed 3 used tires and the total came out to……$412. Talk about Karma.
That is so true, Grog, but considering how long they’ve been neglected I came out lucky lucky lucky. And the a/c needing only what amounted to a cleaning was major, major KARMA.
I also purchased replacement slacks and two capri sets for work along with badly needed undies. Part of me says that was extravagance, I already had slacks, but they are more than 5 years old and the legs have shrunk in addition to being short to begin with (I am short backed and long legged….too bad I’m also as fat as sin). I got Talls this time.
Good almost afternoon, friends!pseudo - My hubby grew up in western PA, and he says he prefers KS weather to shoveling all that snow. We have more days of sunshine, too. One thing for sure, here in KS, the weather is never boring. Record lows one week, record highs the next. (Seriously - just happened a few weeks ago).
I tend to wear clothes until they can’t be worn any more. I don’t care about being current in fashion. I buy new when I need it - not when I want it. I’m so much unlike others in that regard.
The National Weather Service has promised us that the thaw will be nice and slow–so we may escape some major flooding. Maybe. Today it may not reach 32–but there will still be some melting from sun on asphalt and dirty snow. In the next week, it should get 40s and even low 50s. We still have lots of snow piled everywhere–plenty of 6-10 feet piles. So it will take some time to disappear.
But I’d never throw such old snow in the trebuchet. Wouldn’t be fair.
It’s about 74 here. I can’t wait for some warmer weather. It’s still too cool here at night for my liking. I don’t dare leave the windows open over night…yet.
Hi, Grog, Lil’ Sis & bmonk!bmonk - Thanks for keeping your old snow. New snow is pretty, although I much prefer the current weather we’re having here now.
Lil’ Sis - Have a good time?
Grog - I’ve got old clothes too, but they get relegated to “at home” clothes once they start showing wear. I don’t care about staying in style, because at this age and my figure, I’ll never be “stylish”. As long as they don’t emphasize my flaws, are comfortable and appropriate for the situation, that’s all I expect.
Rmom, wholesale changes of wardrobe can be quite costly too and I’m not one to throw away money when I’ve still got good stuff taking up space in the closet. The only exception to wearing things to the very end is if I get sick of certain articles of clothing. That doesn’t happen often either, because I am very choosy about what. I buy. If I won’t love it next month or next year, I won’t buy it
I am sneaking in while Grog takes a nap saying Hi to pseudo, Sojo and all Toppers while I keep one eye on the refs who are doing their best to call fouls on Clemson so UNC can get to the line.
Have a good day and pseudo the heat I am familiar with in Missouri and Kansas is Humidity driven as a rule where I live and visit.
Pseudo - Sometimes the heat is dry, sometimes it comes with high humidity. Western KS usually has the lower humidity, the further east in KS, the higher humidity. Also depends on how much precipitation we get and when, which can vary widely. I’ve lived here for 50 years, so I’ve seen all kinds of weather. At least most of the newer buildings here are built with the extreme weather in mind, so unless it gets hit with a tornado, or the power goes out, it is quite comfortable inside. I was warmer in KS this winter than when I was in FL visiting my in-laws over Christmas. They were having a cold spell, but the place wasn’t insulated well, and only had a heat pump that doesn’t work when it is frosted over.
The storms here keep it interesting!
Hi, Hope&Joy! - I can’t stay around much longer today. I got the laundry done, and now that the temp is up to 67°, it is time to work on our cars. My hubby & son got my new dishwasher installed this morning. Hurray!
Well, when it comes to clothes I’m no horse….but I work in an office. It’s not full blown business dress, but you gotta at least look decent. Slacks that pull up halfway to my knee, exposing my socks, is not in the realm of decency in an office. I need to keep my job, and $15 slacks are a decent investment. The capris are what is becoming a summer standard in our office, so a couple of pairs would fit right in with the slacks. I keep my eyes out for blouses on sale, with the right range of blouses it can look like you have a huge wardrobe with a $75-$100 investment.
Quaby - Sounds like you buy clothes like I do. Guys’ business clothes are usually more expensive, but they can get by with less variety. I’m hoping to get my “junky room” cleaned up, so I can move stuff out of my itty bitty room (walk-in closet size) that is my sewing room. I need to start sewing some clothes for me, as I can’t always find just what I want in the stores. My mom sewed for me until her stroke in 2007, so I got spoiled having custom made clothing. Now that I’m done homeschooling, I should be able to carve out time to sew more.
Just thought I would stop in for a minute to say hi. I don’t want anyone to think I got lost or froze to death. [ Almost but not quite] We still have no furnace but we’re hoping for one by at least midsummer. :>/ But the weather has FINALLY warmed up a bit. We still have way too much snow and it doesn’t look like it intends to go away anytime soon.
