Cat doesn’t need to go far for the litter (sand) box. I have personally seen this.

I once took three cats to the beach. Two of them mostly stayed in their carrier with the door open. The Siamese raced to the top of the cliff, then squinted down at us and gave a half hour discourse of how stupid it was to take a cat to the beach. It’s too bright, too exposed, no prey …

I got them all home safely but they did not seem anxious to repeat the experience.
