Actually, Sherlock Holmes didn’t do the deerstalker. He was more of a top hat guy, at least in London. Sidney Paget drew him with a deerstalker in The Boscombe Valley Mystery in 1891, where Sherlock had a “close-fitting cloth cap” for country wear.
