Even at my employed grocery store’s garden center there are different brands and sub-categories — if “sub-category” is the right word — of potting soil in bags.
I didn’t know that garden departments had begun to follow the Starbucks’ philosophy of taking something you need every day, dressing it up a bit and then selling it at a HUGE markup.;D
All the farm land is selling for development. First thing they do is clear any lumber. 2nd is remove the first 3 feet of topsoil. Then bring in fill dirt and build on top of that. What is brought in to build on would not grow a weed, so “top soil” is added for landscaping.“Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple moreMore people, more scars upon the land…”

Similarly, relatively expensive bottled water is usually not (much) different from relatively “free” tap water.
