We always took our kids to fireworks on July 4 despite what these kids point out. Now that our kids have grown up, we start off thinking we’ll stay home for these reasons, but always end up going … and are glad for it. Something irresistible!
they are illegal where i live but people in my neighborhood still set them off starting a month ahead of time because of graduations prior to the 4th. this year there were more people setting them off than there have been in the previous 19 years i have lived here. i worry about my house, garage, or shed burning down from a firework lading on my roof. what upset me was the debris in my yard from the spent fireworks that were set off by people on the street behind me. the police do little about them because they are too busy responding to the shootings.
I’ve realized with time that watching in crowds is not as much fun as setting them off myself with some of the fireworks you can get these days. So, I tend not to go, but do like having gatherings where we can set them off ourselves.
We live close enough to the park where they do the fireworks on the Fourth that we just sit in the front yard.
This year, everyone and their grandmother were also setting off fireworks and some of them had professional strength ones. By eleven o’clock there was so much smoke that it looked like the fog had rolled in.

Why experience anything in the outside when you can watch it on a big screen. We are steadily marching toward E. M. Forster’s The Machine Stops.

Fireworks on tv just can’t compare to the real thing.

I agree. Seen enough fireworks in my life. The small town displays around here are pretty boring compared to the big city ones.

I thought you had to be a lot older to think like that?
