I never set out to name my cars, it just happens. My Honda is “Honda Honda Honda” because of the high revving Vetch. My pickup truck is “Big Red” because it is big and red. My new blue Ford Fusion is “Blue bird of happiness” Because it is blue and it makes me happy. Looking back over 50 years of car ownership about half had names.
My first car was known variously as “the brown thing” or “the $#!+ stain” and other names. I got it super cheap, but it had it’s problems. Within a week of owning it the driver side door handle broke off — the rust had completely eaten thru the door panel and it just pulled off when I tried to open the door. I had to reach through rusty, jagged metal to open my door after that. I only had that car a couple months.
It was replaced by another car that had a rather distinctive name that I won’t repeat here because it was not exactly family-friendly, and the car was rather well-known in our area by that name. It was an old ’73 Regal — a real tank — with a trunk that was completely rotted out and several floorboards that were just open holes straight to the road. But it had a V8 and it got me around (paid off a buddy to slap an inspection sticker on it). That car actually caught fire in the parking lot of a local supermarket from fluids dripping on the hot exhaust. Hit it with an extinguisher and it was OK after that.

I once had a fish-printed necktie that I dubbed the “fishers of men” necktie.
(“Leviathan”? Is that Game of Thrones or something?)

What are you going to use to uniquely identify your vehicle in casual conversation – a VIN?
