What good would that do RJ. Even if Verne told you something smart it would just go in one ear and out the other.

The correct response is - “Something smart.”

Everybody knows that!

I’ve heard the saying that “it is better to hold one’s tongue and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt”.;-/

RJ would never want to hear something smart.

back when I was a kid, I quickly learned that the average kids would bully the minority smart kids, just because they are different. I then wished that school would be optional, reserved only for those who enjoy learning, and those bullies would be sent to forced labors.

Knowing a fact does not make a person smart. Being able to apply the fact to a situation in a rational way may be smart.

When did RJ learn to reed?

He just learned something…….

So Verne has learned to know better than to say something smart when around RJ, because with RJ, it never sticks.

None of the floating toy ducks at the carnival has a winning number unless Hammy picks it.

A Mountain Man, scrimped and saved and sent his son Jed to college. When Jed came home on break, his father invited his neighbors for a cook out, wanting to show off. He yelled to Jed,“Say somethin’ smart you learnt at school!” Jed shrugged and said,“Pi r square”…. His Dad, hauled off and smacked him on the back of his head. “Everybody knows pie are round, you fool !”

Given RJ’s propensity to indulge to excess … maybe that was smart!
