Actually, having recently had to go through the will discussion with our stubborn dad — so we don’t have to second guess him after he dies — my siblings and I all went out and updated our wills so our kids and grandkids won’t have to second-guess us.
Sadly, my wife died in March suddenly and unexpectedly and WE were caring for her Mother who has dementia and we thought she would die before us. Put it in writing because everything is just so wrong now. I lost a friend in January too and I have to deal with his estate and it is all screwed up too because he didn’t listen because he said he didn’t care he would be dead and he is right about that. Stress the gift that keeps on giving.
Someone forgot to mention this bit about stress shortening your life span to my father who lived to 92 despite having a heart attack when he was 51. Or maybe it was in spite of the heart attack… The man always had to be doing something or the world would end.
I contacted a funeral home to do my own preplanning. I thought it would only take a few minutes but was astonished to find out how many decisions have to be made. It was kinda surreal to make the decisions for my own self, but I’m very glad that I did, I would not want my kids to have to figure out that stuff while distressed (and I certainly don’t want them to waste $ on a bunch of stuff that I don’t care about).
