The Army had a solution for that. If a soldier wouldn’t shower or bathe, his bunkmates (who had to put up with his stink) would drag him outside, throw him in a barrel of water and scrub him with those old style floor scrubbing brushes. After a painful bath like that, he’d never avoid the showers again. This was obviously back in the 40s and 50s.
