Some years ago I got a subscription to a semi-pro science fiction fanzine, now deceased. I later had occasion to write to the editor/publisher, and I mentioned that the glossy paper made it a little more difficult to read under a regular reading light. He replied that it was printed that way so it could more easily be read under bed covers with a flashlight, “the way we all did.” He was certainly right in my case.
