I had to stop and think- the name is close to Komagata Maru, which was a very tragic and disgraceful episode in the history of Vancouver and Canadian Immigration.
A obscure reference only bona fide trekkies can pick up on. Although I was a big fan of Star Trek during its brief run on TV in the 60s and enjoyed the movie spinoffs, I had to google Kobayashi Maru.
