I’ve heard that Vampires are basically zombie nobles, and mummies are just rich zombies. If we’re going to classify “zombie” as an undead then vampires are basically zombies who put on airs and mummies were able to afford an expensive embalming process to make sure their bodies don’t rot away.

Zombies have changed drastically in the last 60 years. In the good old days, you needed a Voodoo priest/priestess to reanimate you and force you to bend to their will. NOW it’s contagious, or passed by biting, or germs from outer space.

In Romero’s work he liked showing where the reanimated dead came from. Everywhere but the rich. Even brides.
