Fortunately, most systems seem to be set to automatically disconnect after about an hour so you can call back and start over at the end of the queue. The “clever” systems offer to hold your place in queue and call you back. I gave such a system my number. It called me back in two seconds and immediately put me on hold again.
I remember the days when I would call the bank with a problem and ask for a person by name, depending on my problem, then a sweet southern voice would say, “Hi, Mister Bill…how can I help you today?”
