Love anything... and your heart will certainly be wrung. And possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one. Wrap it carefully around with hobbies and little luxuries. Avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless- it will change. It will not be broken. It will become unbreakable, impenetrable... irredeemable... to love at all is to be vulnerable. -C.S. Lewis

It’s so true.
I had a lot of heartbreak. I stopped looking, and the only males in my life were Pixel and Random Numbers, both awesome cats, admittedly. Then a nice gentleman from alt.callahans offered to help me pack my apartment, so I could go home and finish recovering from pneumonia and job hunt.
Our 21st wedding anniversary is in a month.
My best friend said that after all the bad relationships I had, that God owed me.
Why is my screen so blurry?

From Lewis’s “The Four Loves”. I recognized the source for this cartoon before finishing the first sentence. Lewis made many radio radio appearances over the years, notably on the BBC during WW2. But his reading of “The Four Loves” is the only work he recorded in its entirety. Fans of Lewis, or those intrigued by this cartoon can probably find copies of these recordings. They may even be available on line as a free ebook.

You don’t get hurt by loving someone. You get hurt by your expectations of getting something back.
