Every single day I get emails from aspiring writers asking my advice about how to become a writer... and here is the only advice I can give: Don't make stuff because you want to make money... it will never make enough money. Don't make stuff because you want to get famous, because you will never feel famous enough, Make gifts for people. And work hard on making those gifts in the hope that those people will notice. Maybe they will notice how hard you worked... ad maybe they won't. And if they don't notice... I know its frustrating. But ultimately, that doesn't change anything because your responsibility is not to the people you're making the gift for... but to the gift itself. -John Green

“I don’t decide where I live. My wife decides. She’s a curator of contemporary art, and she works at an art museum, so we go wherever she has a job. All basements look the same, so I can write from whatever basement I happen to be living in.”
“It’s hard to get movie studios to pay a lot of money for movies that don’t have robots or explosions.”
“There is a lot of talk in publishing these days that we need to become more like the Internet: We need to make books for short attention spans with bells and whistles – books, in short, that are as much like ‘Angry Birds’ as possible. But I think that’s a terrible idea.”
“I always wondered if there was a purpose to the universe, if there was a plan, if there was some sort of organizing factor, hopefully that I played a role in.” John Green

This is so true. Do something because it needs doing and you want to do it, and do it well.
