A possibly (ok, in all likelihood) apocryphal anecdote says that domestic turkeys are so stupid that they can’t be left out in a storm. The will be so confused by the rain hitting their heads that they will stare at the sky slack-beaked until they drown.
If turkeys were not smart as they need to be they would be extinct. However the industrial turkey is simply a monster designed to be eaten not to survive.
