We have a family member who long ago began a tradition of making a Hanukah get-together on Christmas day, because it was the only day she could be sure everyone would be available and that her daughters would be home from college. So only once in my life have I done the Chinese food on Christmas Day thing. It was in 2019, and the reason we didn’t go to the usual gathering was that our car was going downhill (which was fine, but we were afraid to rely on its ability to go uphill — or even to go forward on level ground).

Easy… the old folks can go out for dinner and the young-uns can do what ever they normally do!! They don’t always have to eat together!
