I gotta look up the etymology of the word stocking cap, because that’s what Santa’s wearing.

From Wikipedia: “In Scandinavia, caps resembling a typical knit cap with a pom-pom have been in use since the Viking period and possibly earlier. The terms tophue (Danish), topplue (Norwegian), toppluva (Swedish) mean ‘top cap’, and refer to the pom-pom.

The Viking-age Rällinge statuette, possibly a depiction of the god Freyr, wears what might be a pointed cap with pom-pom.8

Early caps were probably sewn or made with nålebinding, but were knitted from the 17th century onwards, when knitting became known in Scandinavia. Inspired by the phrygian cap of the French revolution, it became largely ubiquitous during the 18th and 19th century. It is still found in many of the Scandinavian folk costumes for men.”

No fighting the crowds, exposure to diseases, no dings from shopping carts in the parking lot, yeah shopping on-line sucks.

Husband ordered his gifts this year for pickup at Walmart. One was a James Bond DVD. You may know I say we almost always have problems with ordered items. The DVD was showing on their site as available at 2 different local Walmarts – we have small ones – but a lot more of them, I can walk to two of them and two others are extended walking distance – one of which is a Walmart Neighborhood Market (aka supermarket/pharmacy only) and it the highest grossing NM they have. So we had to go out to where the “SuperWalmart” is (in quotes as it rather small, even smaller than a regular Walmart in our area) is and the DVD was there – per the website. They did not have it. We drove to the one near us which was suppose to have – nope. Asked the employee – he looked where we had looked and “don’t have it”. Online husband was reading that others went to their local Walmarts and they posted photos of the large special display. We tried again a few days later – none- and both stores showed as available/pickup in store. So he decided to order one of the ones in the store for pickup. Site took the order and the payment and it said it would held for 4 days (so they did have it if they could hold it?). Following day he got an email that they did not have here, sale canceled, here’s your payment back. Went in the following day (going to Walmart is one of our few amusements these days) and there it was – just sitting there! How? if they did not have it to hold for him?

This is why we NEVER order things unless there is absolutely no other way to get something we NEED.
