So far as I can tell, the point of good deeds isn’t to earn anything; it’s to cooperate with God in becoming who he designed you to be—to “achieve your full potential,” to use a modern catchphrase. It’s like an athlete training for an event: you’ll enjoy it more if you’re in proper shape.
