Those are just one very small step away from outright porn.

Is because romance is the most phony use of fantasy and sci-fi.

Because taking the risk of a broken heart is more daring and dangerous than a hero flying his starship into battle (because they are the “only hope” or drawing their sword to defend the castle).

This would be why superheroes (and heroes) always work alone and don’t have a love interest… sure they can save the world and feel good about it as long as no one they know dies in the chaos leading up to their final “saved it!” If a loved one dies – then they must go out for revenge.

Writers write, and romance authors turn out a ton. The strip Frazz made a joke that Mrs. Olsen’s favorite romance author went by the name Chelsea Churnemout

In “The Cat Who Walks Through Walls” the main character describes how he re-wrote the Ring of the Nibelungen opera librettos into a nearly limitless series of confession magazine stories.
