When I was in high school I had to read âThe Great Gatsbyâ. When I reported on it I asked âWhere are the spaceships? Where are the aliens?â The teacher was not amused.
In my teenage years, the TV soaps started up around 3 PM, just about the time weâd begin arriving back home. I was rather partial to âAnother Worldâ that is, until the old Star Trek reruns started up.
Grandma S. always watched As The World Turns. During one family get-together grandma was going on and on about the things âthose peopleâ were doing. She was naming names and talking about all these different events happening. Nobody could figure out who or what grandma was talking about. After some time my mom started giggling. She realized grandma was talking about âher storyâ, the soap opera.
Never could get into the Soaps, even when I was familiar with an actor or a network exec-in-charge. But I donât exactly buy into Nerwinâs reasoning, eitherâŚ.

That TV looks like it might explode.

The soap operas on TV were aimed at women, using social problems and situations.

I used to have a sitter who liked to watch The Soaps. To this day, the girls call them âthe crying lady showsâ.

Perhaps there would be more soaps on the air today if theyâd been directed by Michael Bay.

Things do indeed explode on soap operas. Fragile egos, fidelity, arrogance, vaneness, narcissism etc.
