This is about 180 degrees away from what I was originally planning to do for President’s Day. I thought I’d feature an inspiring quote about leadership or courage or patriotism or some such. But for some reason I kept coming back to this quote by Abe Lincoln that doesn’t seem to fit any of my expected categories at all.
But we live in difficult times. Depression and anger are rampant. So I thought something clearly and strongly upbeat might be more appropriate. And maybe looking for good things does have something to do with leadership, courage and maybe even patriotism after all.
The leaf cutter bees rejoice because my John Cabot rose has a zillion leaves to cut tiny circles from. It looks like it’s been attacked by a hole punch.
How exactly does the thorn protect the plant? It doesn’t keep aphids or other insects off. You could say that it’s to deters humans from cutting them off, but that doesn’t work either.
I think I’ll celebrate because Rose’s bush doesn’t have thorns.
A tidbit from the usual theme of Last Kiss. But I did appreciate the quote, even if misattributed, and like it and all the comments. My best wishes for those who have found too many thorns among the roses.

The roses are still there because of the thorns.

A rose is a rose until it’s rosehip tea…and that’s not a bad thing.

…and we all learn, early on, that to enjoy the beauty of the rose, all you have to do is dodge the thorns!
