Tabbies are disconcertingly good at camouflage. Johnny Depp was a good cat. If I called him, he would “answer up”, that is, if he couldn’t see me. If he could see me, he couldn’t be bothered. Many a time, on our walks in the redwoods, I would call him for several minutes with no answer. Eventually he would take pity on me and twitch an ear or something, I would be startled to find he had been sitting three feet away the whole time.
