1997, or close enough. Broadband arrived in my home that year. Felt like going to lightspeed. And the connection sounds went away, which I miss a little.
I remember waiting an hour for a two minute clip to load. Even though TV existed all my life, it was exciting that I would be able to watch a video on my computer.
The Microsoft Network. You could start it, shave and shower and get dressed for work by the time it took to load it. Of course the problem was probably my modem. It was just a mouse on a treadmill.

First one line connection was 1200 baud. There was NO downloading of pictures back then unless set up to run for hours while away.

Someone developed PowerPoint training sessions for us. they were 10 Mb each. With 56k modems, they took 20 minutes each to load.

My first modem was 2400, but I worked for the phone company, so I had experience with older ones. I was so glad when I could move to cable modems.
