In a local community on the outskirts of Sacramento, CA where I live, there is a catholic church called, “Saint Mel’s” – It has always struck me as, in an effort to be polite let me say, “Interesting” that apparently there was or is a St. Mel…..I could see St. Melvin but St. Mel just sounds, again, let me attempt to be polite, odd.

One of his bones is a very holy relic: The Humerus of Hilarius.

Sounds like the start of a really bad limerick…

There once was a Pope Hilarius,

Whose subjects were actually furious

They ranted an raved

But their anger they saved

And planned something much more nefarious.

Used to be, some papers didn’t run a Saturday edition, so the Saturday strip was usually one that could be dropped, which means more with a continuity strip like Dick Tracy or Mary Worth.

So (pardon my math rounding) he’s been dead for about 375 anniversaries. (died leap day).

His history shows him to have been a good Pope. He was later canonized as a Catholic Saint…..

Good grief, Weingartens; even Stephan Pastis tries harder than this.
