We have an old rotary phone. It works to receive calls but you canât call out with it because the dial tone times out before you can finish dialing. I donât know if it is that way in all areas but it is where we live.
I usually ask people in Pamâs position how their Morse code is, but I like their answer more. (Iâm sure kids of today could figure it out in the same way we did, but why on Earth would they need or want to?)
The little smartypants doesnât quite understand the use of the dial phone. With the old Brumberg phones, you had to put your finger at the number position and drag the wheel counterclockwise around till your finger was stopped by the dam. Then youâd release the dial and it would rotate clockwise back to the starting position, thus sending the pulse to select that number. There are some new versions of the dial phone for those that hanker for the retro look that have buttons at the number positions. With these, one can follow little miss smartypants directions and make the phone work.
When we serve coffee to someone and ask âhigh test or unleaded?â they know immediately what we are asking.
In a decade or so all cars will be electric. By the time todayâs infants are old enough to drink coffee, if we aske them âhigh test or unleaded?â they wonât know what the heck we are talking about.
Can anyone remember those old fashioned Voice Activated phones? You lifted the ear piece and when it said âNumber pleaseâ, you just spoke it into the mouthpiece and got connected.

I want to see them try to use a Windows 95 PC and a phone modem to connect to the internet.

If Pam is a Gen Xer or older Millennial, she should be able to use both the rotary phone and set up her own technology.

I really canât see all cars being electric in 10 years. Unless we actually do totally run out of crude oil by then.

Cute gag, but with more truth than some of us, myself included, would want to admit.

Ellen actually did this on her show a couple of years ago. The audience member could not figure out how to use the phone.
