Way, way too much information there, Jamaal. Actually, here in the south, soul food comes across as just plain down home cooking. With all the right seasoning, of course. My momma used to cut the ends off the bacon, rather than fat back, and add them to the snap beans, though now I just add olive oil.
I’ve spoken on an expanded idea of soul food as anything you make an effort to eat in order to honor ancestors who had to eat it, with examples being corned beef and cabbage for the Irish, whole roasted turkey for Anglo-Americans, and my centerpiece as a Scandinavian, lutefisk.

It usually does. If you like to eat processed meat never take a trip through a sausage factory. By the same token, don’t go through a packing plant.
