Q: Why did the chicken cross the playground?

A: To get to the other slide.

Like one of the questions to the Ultimate Answer in The Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy:

“What do you get if you multiply six by seven?”

“No, too literal. The public would never stand for it?”

“How many roads must a man walk down?”

“Great! ’How many roads must a man walk down? Forty-two.” Makes sense without actually tying it down to meaning anything."

Why did the Red cross the road? So Rover, his guardian angle, could save him from getting hit by a truck! Thought all of you loyal readers would love that. Today is a great day to smile!

Leave it to Rover to create a new story from an old joke! Love my little friends sitting under a shade tree, watching the world go by. Take care, sweet darlings!

If you really want to get the full flavor of absurdness of the universe you must listen to the original BBC radio show, broadcast in 1978. I heard the first episode on my way home from work one night and was completely hooked. The books came much later and IMHO they were a compromise, you miss a lot of the audio and sound effects that make the humor. The 1981 TV series was a good second, the later movie from 2005 was a complete let down, they forgot HHGTG was supposed to be funny. My son and I got free tickets to the movie, afterwards I told him it was worth the price. ;-) I keep my copy of the original radio scripts nearby.

Too bad the road was too busy and rode the chicken to road kill.

I think that the chicken wanted to prove to the armadillo that it COULD be done.
