Out of step

His stepladder provided an adequate upbringing.

So you prefer the former over the ladder.

I bet you’ll be surprised!

I think I saw him the other day, rattling along on top of a truck.

He never had a real ladder.

The stepladder was very nice, with his feet firmly on the ground…

And he tried his best to help raise the children, but though he went to great lengths, as far as he could, he always thought he came up a little short.

Now he wishes he could have helped them reach higher goals.

I’m beginning to get a little worried about Dan. Has anyone checked on him lately? C’mon, step up. Don’t be shy.

It’s really more of a step-stool, but that doesn’t work for the joke

The stepladder did its best to raise him. His real ladder might have raised him the rung way.

He needs a couple of sessions with Dr. Carl Rung.
