God I hear this one a lot. It’s always me, never them.

Trivia fact. This was one of my gags, and the first time this one ran, the guy was Jay. It wasn’t too long after that John brought in Andromeda (without telling me that she was going to be permanent.) I didn’t like the development at first, because it smacked to me of the old trap where a writer feels sorry for one of their characters and decides to give them happiness. Charles Schultz kept Charlie Brown losing games because he felt that winning wasn’t a source of funny gags.

Roy was the original ’can’t get a date’ character, and it took John and Andre a while to decide whether or not Jay was married. Then Kathy came along, and Jay was officially the single loser- until Romy arrived. So far we’ve avoided cutting off this source of gags for Herbie, so I drew him into the rerun of this panel.

In the meantime, I reconciled myself to Andromeda by finding new ways to use her. She was supposed to be like I DREAM OF JEANNIE, but I never liked that show or dumb blonde characters in general. John wrote a few gags where Andromeda is upset that she doesn’t appear more often, so, in turn, I devised the whole thread where Andromeda hijacks the strip and makes herself appear in old reruns.

Herbie shouldn’t have read her that poem by the Azgoths of Kria.

    Happy Bad Poetry Day Everyone

The background appears to be a photo. I think I see my old car in the parking lot! (jk, but maybe one like it!)

It works either way. In word order or for those at the table. (They’re both ‘on’ the table.)

At least she’s up front an honest, with this guy. Would she act that way towards Tom Cruise though?….
