“to rouse from sleep” is attested from c. 1300. It has past tense woke, rarely waked (and that usually in the transitive sense) and past participle waked, rarely woke or woken. Related: Waking.
These usage guides for awake, awaken, wake, waken are distilled from those in Fowler and Century Dictionary:Wake is the ordinary working verb; it alone has the sense “be or remain awake” (chiefly in waking). The modern usage of the word ‘woke’ is an aberration and social construct – as is much of the ideology used today. Yes, Papa Dog woke up this morning.
It’s hard to figure out what anyone means by ‘woke’ anymore. It originated around a century ago in the Black community as a survival tactic, meaning be aware of and alert to racial prejudice and discrimination, possibly from the writings of Marcus Garvey in 1923.
The phrase “stay woke” turned up as part of a spoken after-word in the 1938 Lead Belly song “Scottsboro Boys.” In 1962, ‘woke’ was used in an opinion piece as an example of how white Americans incorporate Black vernacular.
In 2014, following the police killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, “stay woke” suddenly became the cautionary watchword of Black Lives Matter activists trying to make people aware of the specific problems of brutality and racial bias in police tactics.
Since then, ‘woke’ has evolved into a single-word summation of leftist political ideology, centered on social justice politics and critical race theory. [CRT: Social movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is not a natural, biologically grounded feature of physically distinct subgroups of human beings but a socially constructed (culturally invented) category, inherent in the law and legal institutions.]
This framing of “woke” is bipartisan: It’s used as a shorthand for political progressiveness by the left, and as a denigration of leftist culture by the right. On the right, “woke” bespeaks “political correctness” gone awry, and the term itself is usually used sarcastically.
In other words, what people actually mean when they use the term ‘woke’ now is totally unclear — even when it is used insultingly or sarcastically, one can’t be sure what the user is actually ridiculing.
“Woke” is about controlling other people. Like making them use different pronouns which they can arbitrarily change from day to day. I refuse to grant them any power over me.

Someday those who consider themselves to be “woke” will really wake up someday (when they grow up and mature) and realize what idiots they were being.

You know you are “Blunt” when you are “Back To Bed-lam” (and you know you turn into a “Meat Loaf” when you lie in a “Bed Out of Hell”)

Pluggers can’t be woke, they have too much common sense.

Pluggers may take a while to wake up, and may never wind up “woke”.

When I’m woke in the morning, I’m in overdrive by the time my feet hit the floor.

This plugger does not know what that other “woke” is all about. Tried to read up on it, but the eyes glaze over.

A bunch of us were woke back in the 60’s, the current use of the term really means “I’m going to alienate everyone I can as much as I can”…

Ah yes, because social awareness and trying to make change in the world is just a fad that old farts can’t be bothered with.

I might extend it to at least the first cup of coffee. Never been the ‘hit the ground running’ type.
