The other night I stumbled across 2 videos that have apparently been out for awhile:
The Man Who Saved The World about Captain/First (later Vice Admiral) Vasili Aleksandrovich Arkhipov’s decision, as commodore of a small nuke-armed wolfpack during the Cuban Missile Crisis, not to launch their nuclear torpedoes at the USN flotilla that was harrassing them with toy depth charges.
The Man Who Saved The World (yes, same title) a 2014 film about Lt. Col. Stanislav Evgrafimovich Petrov, a PVO Strany (Anti-Air Defence of he Nation) engineer officer who, taking a friend’s shift as watch officer one night, elected not to press the panic button when the early-warning satellites screamed that the US had launched its ICBMs. As an engineer, the idea that the US would launch only 5 missiles felt like a malfunction in the recognition software, not the start of WW3, so he didn’t press the panic button. For being right and embarrassing the brass, he was rewarded by being fired instead of promoted, and retired into obscurity and PTSD.
So, when Olga Skabeyeva on Russian State owned TV says they should have nuked Queen Elizabeth’s funeral while world leaders were in one place, we should assume it’s propaganda? “We should have done it today, all the best people are there for the funeral.” She’s the Russian equivalent of Tucker Carlson, you say?
What about Medvedev announcing Russia thinks they can use nukes in Ukraine without consequences? “American and European demagogues aren’t going to die in a nuclear apocalypse, and so they will swallow the use of any weapons in the current conflict.”
Maybe Putin advisor, Sergei Karaganov is just joking about daring the US to do anything if Russia nukes a Polish city? "“It would take a madman in the White House to respond to a limited use of nuclear weapons by Russia with a nuclear strike. Or a person who hates America and ready to sacrifice, say, Boston for Poznan.”
Putin has said he would use nuclear weapons to defend Russia. He’s also said, “Ukraine is Russia.” That sounds like a threat.

NHK World Japan is better, they get their info on the war in Ukraine from unnamed UK officials.
