My nephew hired a surveyor to check the boundaries of property he was buying. The guy tried to use a GPS instead of a transom and the normal tools. A normal GPS is only accurate to within 16 feet, which is what he was using. A high-end one is good to within a few centimeters.

I still keep a road atlas in my car for when (not if) my GPS is wrong.

sometimes the old methods are still the better methods
