Several years back, I went for a hike alone in an area that had been having problems with a repeat offender bear breaking into cabins

The park service was looking for it to put it down

I had a machete on my hip and a walking stick

I said I was going to hunt the bear, the truth is I felt about the same way the boys do

There are some areas I go to, with the bear population rising, it is wise to have a large bore handgun on you. I’ve seen bears and have given them a whole lot of space and slowly extracted myself from the area. Other than seeing them, never had a close call and definitely don’t want one.

Hunting them, but hopefully not finding them.

Not even beginning to hibernate here in New England. Mid 70’s the past four days. It’s pleasant in its own way, but this ain’t right.
