We have some crosswalks here where you press a button and lights flash on both sides of the street to let the drivers know that someone is wanting to cross the street. They are suppose to stop so you can cross but most times the drivers just keep driving through the crosswalk anyway. That really upsets me when I am on my rollerblades and trying to continue on the park trail that crosses 2 streets. I wind up having to wait several minutes for traffic then to clear.
Drivers are hopeless here. they actually had to pass a special law a few years ago regarding pedestrians in crosswalks, beyond just the usual traffic law. Folks still plow through. So I grew up learning to waiting for traffic to create the opening, rather than traffic stopping for me. Most of us learned to step off the curb, using the parked cars as shields, so we could get across that much faster.
Fast forward to my first time in Boston, making to cross Comm Ave without a light. Seeing the busy 4 lanes of traffic, figuring I was going to have to make quick work of any opening, I started to do my accustomed head start into the parking lane. The moment my first foot hit the tar, all four lanes ground to a screeching halt, with some cars caught halfway through the intersection! I was so embarrassed! I nearly caused a couple bumper benders.
I scooted as fast as I could waving apologetically to the chaos. I got mostly traditional Boston one fingered waves back.

So if LDL’s always known there was a crosswalk there on the road…how come in all the times he tries to cross the street, he’s never used it?
