We have a three-foot tall scratching post that the kittens love to climb. Mittens would love it. We have all sorts of lower scratch pads for when they feel less active. Mitty would like those as well.
I glued 150 feet of sisal rope to a 7 foot cardboard tube that came from a roll of carpet. Angle brackets and scrap plywood were then used to anchor it to the bottom of a shelf, with a plywood “foot” on the floor.
They climb it to get to the top of the tv cabinet, then from there run along other shelving units to a basket on a corner bookcase.
Scratching is usually slow; climbing is usually fast. I don’t think I have ever seen a cat climb slowly up a tree. Getting down … that’s another story. :)
