Oddly enough, to this day I have the same problem with rifle scopes. Seems like the first few seconds I look down that tube all I see is black until I shift around and get sorted out. Maybe if I used it more than once or twice a year, I would get the hang of it.
The coming darkness won’t be for maybe trillions of years. But when it does baryonic matter will be too scattered to from solar systems. No more stars will form, and the universe will be scattered fine remnants of said visible matter all 6% of it in a cold steady state universe.
