Except the NYT crossword on Thursday and sometimes Friday or Saturday. Those are the tricky days and, yes, there are puzzles that need letters in black squares and sometimes even outside the puzzle. And those are in addition to the rebus option where there are more than one letter in a white square. Just adds to the challenge.
